D Lab is a one (sometimes two) man print lab situated in Düsseldorf in Germany.
D Lab started business in 1989 as a traditional print lab specialising in prints direct from transparencies and rapidly built a reputation for quality prints at a reasonable price.
In those days work was done on DeVere enlargers and a 60cm wide Sitte developing machine which used large amounts of water and a hell of a lot of electricity!
But those days are over and prints are made on Epson 9900 and 4880 plotters and a couple of Apple Mac computers.
Proprietor David Davies who spent 10 years in London producing Cibachromes and C types, before moving to Germany, is also a keen photographer and spends a lot of time (maybe too much) producing images for picture libraries. His work can be found in the Links section, also under Leistungen
Black & White Baryt Prints (also from colour originals), on Canson Paper
Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique is a photo paper that truly replicates the aesthetic of a darkroom lab photo-chemical paper. This premium quality photo paper is a pure white, alpha-cellulose
paper that has a barium sulphate (baryta) coating and heavy 310gsm weight, which is typical of traditional silver halide papers. Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique Paper produces excellent black
density and great image sharpness, making it ideal for black and white photographic printing. Down to the smell of the barium sulphate, Baryta Photographique truly looks, feels and has the familiar
smell of a darkroom lab photo paper, bringing a nostalgic touch to the digital age.
